Block 1 Lab 6 — Host Time, Licensing & Basic Health Check

#	Objective
1	Check the current time state and diagnose why NTP is not synchronised
2	Configure NTP servers via the ESXi Shell using esxcli
3	Verify and start the NTP daemon, confirm sync via the Host Client
4	Apply a licence key to the host using the Host Client
5	Run a hardware health check — review CPU, memory, storage, and NIC state
6	Check system logs for warnings — identify and understand active alerts
7	Open Production Readiness — step through the full pre-production checklist
8	Knowledge check — NTP, licensing, and host health concepts

Concept	What it means
NTP	Network Time Protocol — keeps the host clock in sync with a time source. Required for valid SSL certificates, vCenter connectivity, and log correlation.
ntpd	The NTP daemon on ESXi. Configured via /etc/ntp.conf or esxcli. Must be started AND enabled to survive reboots.
Clock skew	Time difference between the host and vCenter. Skew above 5 minutes breaks SSO authentication. Above 10 minutes breaks HA heartbeating.
vSphere licence	Applied per-host or per-cluster. Without a licence ESXi runs in evaluation mode (60-day feature-complete trial). After expiry, the host becomes read-only.
esxcli system syslog	Commands for configuring syslog — where logs are sent, rotation policy, remote log server.
